تنها سایت پرورش و نگهداری تمساح پوزه کوتاه گاندو در شهرستان چابهار بخش دشتیاری دهستان باهوکلات روستای ریکوکش است که حدود ۱۰ سال است به منظور حفظ و نگهداری تمساح پوزه کوتاه برای جلوگیری از انقراضشان فعالیت میکند.
این مجموعه زیر نظر محیط زیست میباشد که تنها امکاناتی چون زمین و ساختمان تیمارداری برای این گونهی خاص تمساحها فراهم کرده است و از دادن هرگونه امکانات و خدمات دیگر امتناع میورزند. درحال حاضر ۱۶ گاندو داریم که همگیشان با مراقبت و سرپرستی افراد بومی به زندگی ادامه میدهند. گاندو برای مردم منطقه موجودی مقدس و محترم است و اگر حضور و همراهی اهالی روستا و مردم خیر نباشد سالها پیش شاهد نابودی کامل این گونهی خاص بودیم.
ما برای خرید غذای گاندوها که با کمکهای مردمی فراهم میشود مجبور هستیم هربار مسافتی حدود صد کیلومتر طی کنیم. در حال حاضر مهمترین نیاز گاندوها فریزر میباشد که بتوانیم گوشتها را نگهداری کنیم تا در صرف هزینههایی چون رفت و آمد مدام و هزینهی ماشین و بنزین صرفهجویی به عمل بیاید. قیمت فریزر دو و نیم میلیون تومان است که با توجه به پایین بودن وضعیت معیشتی اهالی و همچنین بی اهمیت بودن موضوع گاندوها برای محیط زیست از موسسه دستان مهر طبیعت تقاضای کمک برای خرید یک دستگاه فریزر را داریم.
Gondo, a short snout crocodile, also known as Mugger and Marsh crocodile, is an endangered species, native to southern Iran and the Indian subcontinent. The only preserve in Iran that for the past ten years has been protecting them, is operating under auspices of the Environmental Protection Agency, but outside of land, without any other budget or support. This preserve with 16 Gondos currently under its protection, is located in southern Iran, province of Sistan-Baluchestan, city of Chabahar, near village of Bahukalat. Gondos are much revered in the local culture. This site is run via volunteers and people financial support. The state has recently been ravaged by floods and is considered to be one of the lowest income states with many residents living under the poverty line. The caretakers sometimes have to drive over 100 kilometers to purchase food for them. They are in a dire need of a box freezer to store food.
